Empowering people to live more sustainably, by changing
JUST ONE THING at a time.
We believe that we are stronger if we work together as a community. That is why we are working on encouraging people to be more sustainable in their lives by doing JUST ONE THING at a time.
Why we started our JOT Group?
We feel we can make more of a difference together
Share ideas and support each other to become more sustainable
Advocate for a waste free future for us all
Plan sustainability events for our community
To have fun!
Ann Brown and Ruth Davison; perfectly ordinary ladies, trying to do JUST ONE THING at a time to make a difference locally in the sustainability sense.
Our Journey so far:
Ann Brown and Ruth Davison decided they wanted to work together with the Waitaki Community in the beautiful Otago District of New Zealand to become more sustainable, by just doing one thing at a time. We could be perfectly imperfect in our efforts but we needed to DO something.
We launched in July 2023 and in the 2 years that JOT Waitaki has been active, we have had meetings where like minded people thought of ways of living more sustainably. We discussed why we should give a JOT, then came up with solutions that everyone could resonate with in areas like food waste, fast fashion, greener gardening and chemical free cleaning. These are just a few of the areas we have looked at and we are always open to new ideas.
We realised that rather than just working with those members of JOT Waitaki, we could make more of a difference by having community events on themes that a wider audience may be interested in. Recent popular community events included a Resilient Gardens and Preserving Produce Day at our local Waitaki Community Gardens, hosting Kate Hall, AKA Ethically Kate on her Bump Tour in March 2025 and participated in a Plastic Free July Expo.
